Master Keys MMA – Week 10: An Exercise in Giving & Receiving

Was so inspired with the affirmation “I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy!” that when I was doing my sacred routine Wednesday night I got ANOTHER idea.

1078436_word_idea_on_the_dicesI have to admit, I used to get ideas on a regular basis but I would seldom follow through – mainly as they were either fleeting thoughts which I did not pay attention to (much) or they were so out there (!) I would make a conscious decision not to do anything “out of the ordinary” (what would people think?!!).

Now though…during this course…when an idea rumbles through, I digest it, consider what I want to do with it or how I am going to work with it AND then I DO IT.  Pretty straight forward!

Is it possible I have a NEW blue print formulating??

Allow me to set the stage….

A friend, and fellow business associate, and I were scheduled to attend a local craft show on Thursday.  The craft show is an annual affair of over 800 artisans, from across the country, selling their artistic creations for 10 days all in 1 location.

Woo Hoo! Serious Shopping!shopping

We had already attended the previous Thursday, for opening day, spending over 6 hours walking, shopping, meeting people, doing the Mark J framed firelighters (where we felt it was appropriate) and building rapport for possible future business interaction.  A great day indeed!

We were now scheduled to go again – hoping to meet more interesting people to interact with. This is where my idea stepped in and shook things up a bit.

12992014348K42vaWednesday night I decided I would have a different outlook on the day. I would approach people with the intent to share and give something – with joy, with love.

I printed off 42 copies of my poem from last week (inspired by “I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy.”).  The idea would be to share my inspired words and hopefully touch someone who may be in need of some positive words.

So…how did I make out?

Within 2 minutes of being at the show we stopped to speak with Robert, a jeweler from Montreal. Wonderful, hand-made, unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. We chatted. We laughed. We shared stories. I explained my mission for the day (to share joy and love) and proceeded to hand him a copy of my inspired words.  My name and signature were at the bottom of the poem.  No contact details were included – no business card was left.  He was pleased with the gift and was smiling ear to ear when we went on our way. A fantastic start to the day!

We met many people during our 8 hours of shopping, chatting, interacting and sharing. A few were confused when I offered my gift.  With a small tweak to my approach (ie: “Would it be ok if I shared….?”) those whom I spoke with agreed to take what I offered.  (THANKS go out to my friend for coaching and reminding me of our training.)  A few remained skeptical (why would someone do what I was doing? I say, who cares!), most were intrigued and a good portion were openly appreciative of my approach and gift.

giftI have to admit it was fun! It felt good to share something without any anticipated requirement or return.  If felt wonderful to connect with so many people in a way I had not done so prior to today.  It ALSO felt really good to receive the few hugs and look of wonder – knowing deep down that I had indeed touched someone’s life with my action and words.  I had not anticipated that last one and felt overjoyed when it happened.

Sitting, thinking about what this day meant to me….I truly believe this was an exercise I NEEDED to experience in full force – to give without expectation of reciprocity. The only agenda was to brighten someone’s day.

Interestingly, I did not pay attention to how my supply of cards was being depleted. I gave out my last card on the last aisle just before I left the show.

I am grateful for my day; for my friend; for my new blue print; for this course!  Thank you!

Good job. Funny how our imagination hands us gifts. I see them as gifts from God. Just the ability to change course and discover we are whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy!” Have a great day.

Well Carolynn, that was truly inspiring. It certainly seems to be an idea that would come out of one’s subconscious mind instead of one’s conscious mind – so different, and yet so affirming of everything you have been learning over the last 10 weeks – listening to yourself, taking action, giving without expectation of reciprocity, giving a gift to all that you encounter, staying with a positive mental attitude, creating new, positive cravings for those crazy peptides of ours, and who knows how much more. I wouldn’t be surprised if something comes back to you one day through this activity, because of a heart you touched. You’re doing wonders!

Carolynn – this is inspiring to me. I’ve been receiving an idea, too, of how I can further open the flow of giving without expectation of reciprocity, and your story inspires me to move forward. I see thru your example that by giving without expectation of reciprocity you gave a gift to many, many people, and the act of giving filled you to overflowing! So powerful! Thank you, from my heart, for sharing your story. I can’t wait to share it with the people in my connections.

That was a beautiful story, Carolynn! I enjoyed reading about your experience and giving a gift without expectation of reciprocity. Give more, get more!
